THE FANTASTIC MR FOX

A sustainable approach to Roald Dahl's classic children's novel

My final year project brief celebrated the wonderful world of Fantastic Mr Fox, written by the children’s author Roald Dahl. Situated within a contemporary countryside setting in England, the cast line up is formed of anthropomorphic characters dressed in costumes nodding to the Boho aesthetic of the decade the book was published (1970). The aim of this sustainability project was to highlight the hypocrisy of anti-climate change millennials, attending music festivals but leaving these sites in a state of utter disrepair for volunteers and wildlife to deal with. To make use of the abandoned camping equipment or plastic bags for life, Mr Fox and his companions have utilised these materials to make clothes and furniture for their boroughs. What I hoped to accomplish as the maker was to create immersive anthropomorphic costumes for young people to perhaps accept their contribution to the problem and to second guess their unsustainable behaviours.
